南仏イエールは6月が近くなりすっかり夏のような気候です。毎日太陽と青い空が南仏の景色をより一層魅力的にしているような気がします。
ビーチでは地元の人たちや観光客の人たちが泳いだり日焼けしたりしています。
5月のある水曜日、イエール観光局が取り扱っている「エコツアー、イエールの塩田湿地帯で鳥や自然を観察」という２時間ほどのツアーに下見を兼ねて参加してきました。
実はツアーに参加するのは初めてでした。いつもフラミンゴが空を優雅に飛んでいるのを見たり、色んな鳥が湿地帯ですごしているのを見ると≪素敵≫とは思っていましたが、それ止まり。今回本当に参加して良かったです。塩田は奥が深い。
イエールにはなんと二つの塩田湿地帯が少し離れて、それぞれがほぼ海沿いに位置しています。古い塩田と言われるイエール東にある方は古くは中世の頃の書物にその存在が確認されているほど歴史が長く、私が行ったジアン半島のLA CAPTEにある方は１８００年代中ごろに作られた塩田で、二つ合わせて９００ヘクタールにもの面積となります。
朝８時４５分、イエールのLa Capteのバス停過ぎ近くにあるぺスキエ塩田の前で参加者集合。ツアーは全員揃ったので９時少し前にに開始。この塩田は１９９５年まで鯨のマークの製塩会社が実際に塩を作っていましたが、この年経済的理由で塩作りを中止し、２００１年から公的機関が所有、運営しています。この日はなんと私を含め１６名が参加。皆さん散策スペシャリストの様で、サングラスに帽子、リュックと言ういでたち。確かに５月とはいえ南仏なので雲もない青空の下歩くので、帽子と日焼け止めクリーム、サングラスは必需品です。
ガイドさんは野鳥保護の会の専門家で、この塩田で鳥の生態研究、観察や他の国から飛んでくる鳥の研究などを仕事としている様子。
このガイドさんから貸してもらえる、双眼鏡とこの塩田に住む鳥が描かれた１０ページほどの鳥図鑑を手に塩田を移動しながら鳥観察。この日だけで１０種類以上見ました。鴨やカモメはもとより、白鳥、サギのような鳥などなど、双眼鏡やガイドさんの大きな望遠鏡で観察したり、いつもは入れない塩田の広いスペースを歩き、コクリコの花や、水門など絵になる場所がたくさん。絵心があればスケッチもしたいのですが、今回は写真だけ撮ってきました。あっという間に二時間が過ぎました。
このツアーは老若男女が楽しめる、地球に優しいエコツアーで、次回は家族で来ようと心に決めた私です。ちなみにこのツアー、負のインパクトを出さないように一度のツアーは２０人までと人数制限もある、本格的エコツアーです。
申し込みはイエール観光局で簡単に出来ます。費用は5ユーロとお手ごろ、人気のツアーなので是非ご参加ください。フランス語のみとなりますが鳥を見ながら、広い塩田の散歩は言葉など関係なしに楽しめます。
